What issues can you help with?

I can help with various concerns. The most common are:

  • depression;
  • anxiety;
  • relationship difficulties;
  • ACC claims (for sexual abuse/assault or a physical injury);
  • self-harm and/or suicidal behaviour;
  • alcohol and other drug use;
  • an assessment for Autism; and
  • an assessment for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
Do you work with children/young people?

Yes.  I can provide therapy for children/young people.  When working with children/young people, it is preferable that their parent/caregiver is included in the process.

Can we have a telehealth session?

Yes, I can provide telehealth sessions (a therapy session conducted by phone or videoconference).  For some people, this is their preference as it provides flexibility with their schedule and removes the need to travel.

How long/often are therapy sessions?

Sessions are approximately 50 minutes, once per week.  For children/young people, the session may be shorter, depending on their needs.

What is the cost per session?

If you access therapy through an ACC, there is no cost (as it is funded by ACC).  For private clients, the cost per session is $215 (including GST).

Can I bring my child/ren?

Therapy is time to focus on your needs and having dependents in the room can be a distraction.  However, if there are times when it is difficult to arrange childcare, please discuss this with me.  We may be able to accommodate your child/children or have a telehealth session.

How do I cancel my session?

If you need to cancel/reschedule a session, please notify me as soon as possible (via a text message, phone call, or email).

For clients accessing therapy through an ACC sensitive claim, ACC have requested that the file be closed if you do not attend four consecutive sessions

Do both parents/guardians need to consent to assessment or therapy?

Ordinarily, both parents will be the legal guardians of a child.  While only the consent of one guardian is required under the Care of Children Act (2004), it is preferable to have consent from both parents (or all guardians).

When a child is, or has been, the subject of a Family Court dispute, a Psychologist should take care to gain consent in writing from all guardians before proceeding with assessment or treatment.  The consent of both parents is more likely to protect the child’s best interests by enabling a better assessment and may promote psychological safety for the child through the awareness of the involvement of both.

Therefore, if your child has separated parents, please provide contact details for their other parent/guardians, as consent will be sought prior to the assessment and any therapy.  Of course, there are many situations where obtaining consent is impossible or inadvisable (for example, when a parent is deceased, unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts, or when in attempting to gain consent there is increased risk to the child concerned).  In such cases, this can be discussed, prior to the assessment or therapy commencing.

Information provided by the New Zealand Psychologists Board, Updated Informed Consent Guidelines, May 2024.
